Ryan is a pianist/composer/performer born in St. Louis and then moved to Boulder, CO in 2020. He's performed rock, jazz, classical and pop music professionally since high school & been teaching private music lessons since 2012. He finished with a fine arts degree in music from STLCC, then went on to complete a BA in Music Composition with a minor in Jazz from the University of Missouri St. Louis class of 2018.
While attending UMSL, he studied with internationally acclaimed professors including Alla Voskoboynikova for Classical piano, Barbara Harbach for Composition, and Ken Kehner for Jazz piano. He was recognized with top honors in the class of 2018 receiving a Distinguished Performance in Keyboard award and the Outstanding Music Composition award from the UMSL Music Department as well as being a member of the Honors Society.
During Ryan's time living in St. Louis, he performed with a multitude of various music projects, including his own original projects. These bands included such acts as the Jackson Stokes Band opening for the 2019-2020 Allman Betts Band world tour, The Schwag, & Brother Francis & the Soultones along with many other groups and ensembles. His solo groups: the Ryan Benthall Trio, SpaceShip, & Supalight has gone on to perform at a multitude of Music festivals.
In 2020, he moved to Colorado to focus on building his private music lessons business in Boulder. In the past couple of years living here, he's been involved with many different bands including Phoebe Nix, Daft Phish, Melt & the Family Band, New Family Dog, the salsa band ONDA, Green Buddha, & John McKay Band to name just a few. He's also performing regularly with his current original project, Solvation which is performing in and around the front range.
