Sherwin Cooper is more than your typical pan man from Gasparillo, south Trinidad. He is also a live sound engineer and disc jockey with aspirations of playing the piano.
Sherwin’s life journey is an example of the person and musician that he has become. Sherwin had to convince his family at the tender age of 14 that he was capable and responsible for taking care of responsibilities. His parents only wanted the best for their son as they felt that he deserved better and did not want him to waste his time in the panyard or behind the instrument that he loved.
Sherwin’s determination to learn how to play the steel pan, and not just one but two (proficient on the single tenor and the double guitar), provided him with the opportunity to see parts of the world and explore various parts of our twin-island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
Exploits in competition privately or on a national stage with Fonclaire and Skiffle Bunch or national performances for major companies provided Sherwin with the confidence and the assurance that he could provide the smiles people wanted in return for his exquisite pan playing. With the love and support from his darling wife Mrs. Tricia Cooper, Sherwin has pursued his dreams of seeing steel pan respected throughout the world as any other instrument.
