Indigenous: Voices of the Broken Lands - Live Debut Performance
May 15th, 2026 at 10:30 PM EDT
Indigenous is a Native American blues-rock band led by guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter Mato Nanji of the Ihanktonwan (Yankton Sioux) Nation, known for fiery guitar work, soulful vocals, and songs rooted in Native identity and reservation life.
Born and raised on the Yankton Sioux Reservation in South Dakota, Indigenous front man Mato Nanji grew up immersed in music through his father, musician and Native rights advocate Greg Zephier, and a deep well of classic blues records. In their late teens, Mato, his brother, sister, and cousin formed Indigenous, developing a powerful touring presence that led to their award‑winning 1998 debut Things We Do and national recognition, including film festival and Native American Music Award honors. Over the years, Mato has carried the Indigenous name
